In the past two weeks I have personally interviewed 2 individuals who struggled with mental/emotional health issues pre-COVID. In both cases, their employers let them go over it. Imagine all the mental and emotional issues currently brewing in the workforce right now?

I hope this email finds everyone doing well given the unprecedented circumstances we find ourselves in. Our team is healthy, and we are optimistic about the future. We believe our entrepreneurial clients have the ability to change the world, and they will. Over the past month I have connected with nearly 100 entrepreneurs and business leaders. It is amazing the local community we live in and how supportive people have been.

Happy Earth Day! Hope this update finds everyone happy and healthy. One of our greatest living leaders, Warren Rustand, made these points in an interview the other day:

Someone recently asked me if I knew what VUCA was. I had no idea. A quick google informed me that VUCA is an acronym that stands for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity. A combination of qualities that, taken together, characterize the nature of some difficult conditions and situations…Pretty relevant for what we’re all going through right now as entrepreneurs and business leaders.

The past couple of months have been surreal and marked by uncertainty. The coronavirus outbreak has disrupted nearly every aspect of day-to-day life across the world including the economy. I have spoken to hundreds of executives and entrepreneurs during this time, and everyone asks me the same question:

Although it feels like an eternity, it’s only been three months since we entered into this global health crisis which triggered a financial crisis, and what I believe is an impending mental health crisis - all of which are highly concerning. As if things couldn’t get worse, we had the murder of George Floyd. This has brought racism front and center igniting discussions and protests across the country.

Dressed in a suit and tie, on a blazing hot 100+ degree summer day in 2004, I stood in line basking under the sun for nearly 4 hours waiting to audition for The Apprentice. At the time this show was one of the most popular shows on primetime tv, ironically hosted by our current President. At the time I recall most entrepreneurs being fascinated by the show and dreaming to be on it. As embarrassed as I am to admit it today, I was one of them! While waiting for a chance to be on this silly reality show, I met an individual who has been crucial to most of our senior level search assignments the past few years.

In 2012 I was accepted into Leadership Denver, affectionately known as “LD”.  For those who aren’t familiar with the program, it’s sponsored by the Denver Metro Chamber with the intent to actively engage civic leaders into community champions through in-depth experiences.  Every year roughly 500 professionals apply and about 65 are accepted for this year-long program.  It was one of the most rewarding professional commitments of my career.
